Are you
interested in serving on an ATA Committee?
It is that time of
the year again for teachers to be nominated or
submit their names for any Provincial
Association committees. Forms can be obtained
by Jason Schilling, your local secretary, or you
can fill in a form online at:
There are many
interesting and provocative committees out there
for you to join. Usually it is a three year
commitment and most committees meet roughly 3 or
4 times a year.
You may find it interested to read the
following article on the Join Together
Alberta site:
Just returned from the Town Hall meeting for
Join Together Alberta, a coalition of
Alberta unions, associations and
organizations that are combining efforts to
urge the government to restore funding to
our communities’ public services. The town
hall was very worthwhile and a great way to
spend two hours listening to how potential
cut backs could affect long term care,
nursing, universities, those with
disabilities. The night was not just
speeches but round table discussions on easy
and simple ways to get involved.
I encourage every
teacher to visit the website,
http://www.jointogetheralberta.ca and
either send an email (somewhat similar to
what you did for Stop the Cuts), or sign the
online petition, or start following the
group on facebook or twitter.
Together, with our
allies, our voices can be heard about the
importance of funding our public services.
